The Theme of the Week contest (TOTW) is intended to showcase photography as well as basic image processing skills. This is a good place to practice for entering international competitions, and thanks to our sponsors you may win some fairly fantastic prizes that allow you to take even more pictures. One important thing to remember when entering shots in any theme is to properly interpret the brief... Some are more straight forward than others - This is all part of the fun

Another thing this contest tries to achieve is encouraging consistancy, and of course out in the sea broadening your technique and range of shots on any given subject matter...

How does it work ?

Every Sunday a new theme will be posted by the staff in the TOTW forum. This can be a style of photography; macro, wide angle, close focus wide angle or maybe a specific type of marine life such as frogfish, turtle, shark and rays and so on. Don't worry, it's unlikely we will pick something like 'Killer Whale' or 'Collossal Squid'.

The theme will be locked for judging by the staff every Friday, and weekly winners will be announced in the forum on Sunday.

What are the rules ?

• You need to be a registered member so that you can post in the TOTW forum
• Submit up to two (2) images in the forums in the thread related to the contest you want to participate
• Image needs to have been taken underwater using a housed digital camera (compact or DSLR)
• Image must not exceed 800 pixels, so please resize before submitting or your entry may be invalidated
• Former grand prize winner are welcome to participate but are not eligible for the main prize the following year only.

The staff will vote for the best pictures and winners will be communicated from 1st to 4th place. Each will get point as follows:

• 1st - 9 points
• 2nd - 6 points
• 3rd - 4 points
• 4th - 2 points

To encourage forums participation, people who post on the board the same week as the contest will immediately collect 1 point per picture entered, irrespective of whether their picture has placed in the top 4. (so posting 2 pictures and not placing while posting in the forums will still get you 2 points)

At the end of the cycle all the points will be added together,  and the top 20 will be judged for the top three prize allocations.

Do I win something ?

Absolutely. The winners at the end of the year will be entered into an annual judging and stand the chance to win a dive vacation and/or equipment.
